The Damien Rice live set is currently available on KCRW. You can find the link 2 entries down. Vic and I really enjoyed it, laughed at the the Irish phrases that slipped out like 'giving out.' The music is great too - very different without the major production of the album versions. But good. Damien Rice is now my favoriite singer. I even wrote a review of his cd at Amazon.
I started L.A. Requiem by Robert Crais. I'd missed the feeling of being pulled into a good detective mystery. I think Crais will join the list of my favorite mystery authors - John Connolly, Harlan Coben and Dennis Lehane.
I'm also reading The Woman Who Gave Birth to Rabbits by Emma Donoghue, a fascinating collection of her versions of old tales from Ireland and England. I also started another of her books - Slammerkin - which is excellent so far. Her writing is wonderful, but I never feel like it's a chore to get through her books, as I have with many of her contemporaries.
I've been listening to more library cds. A good collection of 90's movie themes - Critic's Choice - and also Mychael Danna's score for Monsoon Wedding and Gabriel Yared's for The English Patient, both of which are excellent. And to the box set A Jazz Romance, which is a nice collection of mellow tunes.
Movies - watched The Burbs for the first time. It was better than I expected. A silly fun movie. The opposite of The Rules of Attraction. I was looking forward to this film, had intended to see it in the theater. It was horrific. Usually I'm pretty tolerant of gross scenes, but they seemed so pointless here. It's not good when when the only reaction you get from a movie is disgust. I suggest you don't waste your time with this.
Hope to get around to watching The Good Girl eventually.
